Internationally recognised and respected IOSH licensed training.

Good occupational safety and health performance is core to enhancing/protecting a corporate image.

Occupational health and safety is concerned with the promotion of better working environments, often characterised by motivated workers and competent managers, and preventing foreseeable losses to individuals and organisations.

According to the Health and Safety Commission (HSC), most health and safety failures are due to poor management and ignorance of good practice, rather than direct malicious intent.

Managers can delegate responsibilities for health and safety practice, but, within their scope of control, they cannot delegate their legal accountability.

Organisations, board members, directors and senior managers may be held accountable for organisational health and safety failings, as a number of high profile prosecutions have demonstrated.

The HSC recommends that directors lead safety from the top of an organisation, arguing that it is essential both for effective health and safety management and an effective safety culture. Surveys of directors indicate that most directors recognise this responsibility. However, a recent survey of UK directors revealed that in 26% of the companies surveyed, health and safety is not led at director level.

The IOSH Safety for Senior Executives course reflects the principles embodied in:

  • The HSE’s “Directors’ Responsibilities for health and safety”, INDG 343
  • The Turnbull Report, “Internal control: Guidance for directors on the Combined Code”
  • The HSE’s annual reports
  • The HSE’s “Successful health and safety management” HSG 65; and the British Standards Institution’s “OHSAS 18001”
